Flowering crab apples in full bloom are one of the major signs that spring has arrived, and that summer is not too far behind.

All the colors will be on display this spring at “Journeys in Pastel,” a group show of accomplished artists from the Central Vermont Chapter of the Vermont Pastel Society at River Arts in Morrisville from May 23 through Aug. 22.

St. John’s in the Mountains Episcopal Church, 1994 Mountain Road in Stowe, celebrates the life of Lisa Forster-Beach with a showing of her art that will run from May 21 to July 14.

Healthy Lamoille Valley, a program of the Lamoille Family Center, will be hosting a prevention celebration on Wednesday, May 15, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the community room at Green Mountain Technology and Career Center in Hyde Park.

Elizabeth Ann “Lisa” Forster-Beach, 87, of Stowe, died peacefully Monday, March 11, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.

Kelsey Julia Boleski died on Sunday, March 3, 2024, in Crested Butte, Colo., at the age of 34.

Michael Arthur Spinelli, 84, died peacefully with family by his side, on Friday, May 3, 2024, at The Arbors in Shelburne. Michael was born in 1939 in Barre City and moved to Montpelier where he graduated from Montpelier High School, and, most importantly, met the love of his life, Nancy Ann Blaisdell.

Peter Kinsale Bartholomew Sr., born Dec. 27, 1926, died peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at Belmont Village in Aliso Viejo, Calif. He was 97 years old.

Calling hours for Jane Constance Lowe, 93, who died on Monday, March 18, 2024, will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at the Guare & Sons Funeral Home, 30 School St., Montpelier.

Religion

On Sunday, May 19, at 4:30 p.m., instead of our regular service at St. John’s, we will be holding our annual meeting at Nancy Bank’s house. There will be a potluck supper following the meeting. Please let Nancy know if you are planning to attend. We will vote on new officers for the fellowship and discuss many other important topics.

Have you ever wondered why God chose a fish? He could have rescued Noah in a million other ways. Well, Pastor Russ Rathier brought some new light into that today as he continued his message from the book of Jonah.

On Sunday, May 19, Episcopal bishop Rev. Shannon MacVean-Brown will be the celebrant and preacher at our Holy Eucharist service. The service will begin at 11 a.m. A reception will follow.
